Ainsley Ellis – Mustangs Ahead
(Lakewood Ranch, FL) – The LRHS varsity swim teams took home the title of Manatee County champions for the sixth year in a row on Saturday at the G.T. Bray Pool.
Both the girls and boys placed first, totaling for a combined score of 837 points.
The following Mustangs placed first in their races:
- Frank Runge: Boys 200 Yard Freestyle (1:48.31)
- Phoebe Duval: Girls 200 Yard I.M. (2:18.44), Girls 500 Yard Freestyle (5:26.04)
- Dimiter Zafirov: Boys 200 Yard I.M. (2:06.28), Boys 100 Yard Butterfly (54.09)
- Logan Jones: Boys 50 Yard Freestyle (24.26)
- Reese Wellander: Girls 100 Yard Butterfly (1:07.04)
- Carter Kauffold: Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:11.78)

The Mustangs also placed first in four out of their six relays.
Senior swimmers from across the county were also acknowledged with a brief ceremony for their accomplishments in high school swimming over the years.
Senior Phoebe Duval said, “Counties is always such a fun meet since it the first ‘big’ meet of the season. I was overjoyed to come out on top in my events for my last counties meet.”
The Mustangs next meet is 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Selby Aquatic Center.
