(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Chris Kawcak is ready to take over (again) as the head coach of LRHS varsity boys basketball.
Kawcak has coached various sports for over 30 years and began coaching high school basketball in 2003 as an assistant coach at Bradenton Christian School (BCS). There he helped lead the team to final four appearances in the three out of five years he was there.
Most recently Kawack led BCS to a district championship during the 2020-21 season.
He was also previously the head coach of the LRHS varsity basketball program from 2008-11, where he led the team to 20 wins in his last year.
“Every season my personal goal is to help every player finish the season better than they started. Not just as a basketball player but as a young adult, student, and citizen,” said Kawcak.
Kawcak chose to return to LRHS because of its strong academic tradition, supportive parent group, and strong athletic talent that the program has.
Kawcak plans to build upon the system that LRHS basketball utilizes during the upcoming season and ensure that adjustments are made throughout the season to reach the state playoffs.
“I will work to implement a more up-tempo game on both sides of the ball,” continued Kawcak.
Kawcak also plans to implement game-like pace during practice and ensure that players develop mental discipline towards improving and handling certain situations.
“To me the most important aspect of basketball is mental discipline,” Kawcak added.
Kawcak believes that sports are the best preparation for life and the real world, and he will continue to develop LRHS basketball players for seasons to come.
Kawcak takes over from Jeremy Schiller, who left LRHS to take a job at Bradenton’s IMG Academy.
