Ryan Javate – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- There are many different music genres in the world ranging from reggae to metal to blues, and yet so many people tend to stick to one genre they are familiar with.
This is often due to the type of music they were introduced to as children or what music their parents listened to.
For example, I used to really love pop when I was a kid. I loved to listen to Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, and Bruno Mars during long car rides.
However, after I picked up the guitar during eighth grade my music taste changed drastically. I started to listen to the bands my father grew up with such as Led Zeppelin and Van Halen.
I love hair metal and hard rock. I have always found the melodies to each song to be unique to those bands. However, I know as energetic and crazy each artist is, those genres aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
I asked several Mustangs on my social media page for their opinion on the matter and I wasn’t too surprised by the responses.
“I love hard rock because of the different tones each song has to offer. There are just so many artists to pick from that era you can’t really have one favorite,” said senior Gavin Burns.
Senior Saige Keller said, “The name ‘Soul’ explained [that genre] to me. The artists really express themselves through their music. Soul artists always make songs that can help express how you are feeling.”
Senior Molly Cress added, “I like alternative music because one minute the song can be sending a powerful message, then the next you’re banging your head to the beat of the drums. There’s also a lot of variety that anyone can enjoy it.”
Every artist expresses their message through intricate melodies or beats and unique and special lyrics. They create an environment so great that people who don’t have a favorite genre can easily fall in love with one.
