The Mustang softball team admires their championship rings

(Lakewood Ranch, FL) – The LRHS softball team was presented with their state championship rings on Friday.

During halftime at the football game against Venice the team was honored as state champions.

Junior Cassidy McLellan said, “It was an honor to receive our rings and get the applause from the crowd. We worked so hard to accomplish this goal and the rings were a great way to celebrate it.”

Last season, LRHS softball finished 30-2 and ended the season on a 14 game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 156-34.

In the state tournament, the Mustangs won the semifinal game against Palmetto High School (Miami) 17-2. They won the state championship against the number-four ranked team in the country at the time, Park Vista, 14-4.

They finished the season ranked second in the country by both USA Today and MaxPreps.
