(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Mustangs esports team is beginning their season.

The team with be kicking off the season in October playing Super Smash Bro, Rocket League and Overwatch.   The team held its first organizational meeting Tuesday.

The LRHS Esports team is comprised of 11 members who will also work through state and regional competitions for the chance to compete at Nationals in June at Walt Disney World through the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF).

LRHS esports head coach and student services receptionist said, “I’m actually quite excited on our growth.  A lot heard our (afternoon school) announcement…maybe just the younger kids are gamers.  I think it’s becoming more acceptable. Twitch broadcasts competitions…it’s growing like wildfire.”

Students such as Junior Mark Tarver are also excited for the upcoming season.

“I love playing games, especially competing and working with others,” he said.

This is the second year LRHS has fielded an esports team.  Last year’s team qualified for the league playoffs playing Rocket League.
