The Mustang state champions will be recognized by the Tampa Bay Rays.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity softball team will be honored by the Tampa Bay Rays at their game on Sunday, Sept. 26 for their 2020-2021 state championship accomplishments.

Head coach TJ Goelz said, “I reached out to the Rays in May about honoring our state champs and they responded by telling me they were planning something for the fall. They then reached out in August and said they’d like to bring us in on them, parade on the field, and present us in the mid-game acknowledgements.”

The Rays will host a pregame parade on the field where the Mustangs will be acknowledged.

Goelz continued, “It is always great to receive recognition and visibility as a state championship program which is what we are and what we will continue to be.”

Varsity Mustangs who graduated in 2021 will also be returning to be recognized. LRHS alumna Faith Ross said, “I am excited to come back to be recognized and see my old teammates.”

Unfortunately, some alumni are enrolled in college far away and are unable to attend.

LRHS alumna Jillian Herbst, now at New York’s Colgate University, said, “I’m sad I can’t attend but I am excited that the team will be honored for our great accomplishment.”
