Shivani Ghansiam will be recognized by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS graduate Shivanie Ghansiam was one of four recipients on Thursday, Sept. 2 of the second annual Tampa Bay Buccaneers Girls in Football scholarship.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski delivered the news to Ghansiam, who is now a freshman at the University of Florida (UF).

“I’m extremely grateful for the Buccaneers giving me this scholarship and this is a huge sign that flag football is developing to greater things,” says Ghansiam.

Ghansiam hopes to use the money she received from the scholarship for furthering her college education. She believes that this opportunity will be great at furthering not only her education, but her flag football skills too.

This $5,000 scholarship recognizes graduating female athletes for their scholastic and academic success and assists them in pursuing their future careers in sports. It was designed to encourage breaking gender norms in sports.

Ghansiam played flag football all four years at LRHS and now plays for the club team at UF.

The flag football coaches at LRHS introduced the scholarship opportunity to all seniors on the team, which is how Ghansiam discovered this scholarship.

The recipients of the scholarship will be recognized for their accomplishments at the NFL Kickoff Experience at Julian B. Lane Park and attend the Buccaneers’ season opener against the Dallas cowboys as guests of Gronkowski.

“My goal is to help progress flag football at every level and with the help from the football community, I truly believe it can happen. Go Mustangs and go Gators!” says Ghansiam.
