Sara Mills – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS girls cross country team stared their season off strong with two top 10 team finishes at their first two meets.

The team had their first meet, the Jim Ryun Invitational, on Saturday, Aug. 28 at Holloway Park.

LRHS scored second as a team with senior Ariana Majano placing ninth with a time of 21:27.80 and sophomore Maeve Ingham placing tenth with a time of 21:34.60 in the girls’ varsity 5000-meter run.

Ingham said, “My goal for this year is to work together as a team to win states, rather than work as individuals.”

Their second meet was at the Florida Horse Park Invitational on Monday, Sept. 4.

Senior Grace Marston placed seventh in the girls’ varsity 5000-meter run with a time of 19:53.0, and LRHS placed eighth as a team.

Cross country coach Kristin Wikstrom said, “This year, we have our sights set on a team state championship. Our girls finished third in the state as a team last year, and they are headed into the 2021 season as the second ranked team in 4A. We are working relentlessly hard this season in hopes of winning a state title for the first time in the program’s history.”

Their next meet is the Seffner Christian Invitation scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11 at Holloway Park.
