LRHS’s Patricia Haeussler is an award winning teacher.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Florida Council for Social Studies (FCSS) has recognized LRHS teacher Patricia Haeussler as one of Florida’s Outstanding Social Studies Teachers of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year.

The FCSS webside said, “The FCSS Teacher of the Year Awards honor outstanding elementary, middle/junior high, and high school teachers from each of Florida’s school districts.”

Haeussler said, “I am so humbled and honored to be recognized for something that I love to do.”

Haeussler began teaching in 2000 and has loved it ever since.

Haeussler explained, “When I first started teaching world history it wasn’t a choice, but I love world history. When I was in college, I took a lot of U.S. history and ancient history classes, and when I came to this school it was sort of my choice to teach those.”

Haeussler continued, “Teaching has to be centered around the students. We must try and determine what their current level they are at so we can raise them to the level they need to be at.”

After teaching 21 years, Haeussler explains what she thinks makes a successful teacher.

“Patience, perseverance, and passion. Together you must love what you do, and I love my students and my subject, which is a good match,” explained Haeussler.

Haeussler will be honored for her award at a banquet in October.
