LRHS Siler Stars show off dance trophies.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Silver Stars dance team enjoyed a successful summer close to home.

The Silver Stars participated in their annual three day dance camp with the Universal Dance Association (UDA).

The home camp took place July 26-28 in the LRHS dance room rather than the usual Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront hotel. This was the Silver Stars’first UDA summer camp since 2019.

Dance team adviser and English teacher Sajal Desai added, “The team brought home 23 Blue Ribbons (highest rank), the 2021 Superior Trophy, and 29 top Drill Down Ribbons. The girls exceeded all expectations and are excited for this upcoming season.”

“I think the most important things we learned at camp were respect and how to work together as a team. This will benefit us by creating a strong bond and allowing us to have fun and trust each other,” stated captain senior captain Morgan Aberg.

At camp, the team got to participate in workshops geared towards their collective weaknesses. They formed bonds with each other while also improving their individual dance skills.

Junior Brooke Depasquale said, “In camp we learned the proper technique of toe touches and a la second turns by performing strengthening exercises and drilling the skills. This will be extremely helpful for the upcoming season because these skills are included in our routines.”

Junior Olivia Ellis said, “My favorite part of camp was team building because it brought us together as a team and allowed us to get to know each other more.”

Sophomore Chloe Cochran said, “Camp has taught us how to help one another and become stronger as a team and it will apply for football season so we can look clean and together by giving each other tips and constructive criticism.”

The Silver Stars are ready to showcase their newfound bond and skills at the LRHS varsity football game on Friday, Aug. 27 against Seminole High School.
