(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – New LRHS Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) teacher Major Shaun O’Dea brings his experience from the Army into the classroom.
This is O’Dea’s first-time teaching high school, but he was an instructor in the Army at the Officer Candidate School (OCS).
O’Dea said, “OCS is an intense leadership training ground. It consists of physically and mentally challenging training that focuses on the fundamentals of leadership, basic military skills, instills Army values, and evaluates leadership potential.”
When he and his family relocated to Florida, he earned a job at LRHS.

O’Dea continued, “I particularly like the feeling of community here at LRHS. In the short time I have been here, I can see and feel the pride not only in JROTC, throughout the entire school, both within the Mustang student body as well as the faculty.”
O’Dea has been married for 25 years with three kids. His family moved to Florida from southeastern Connecticut and cannot wait to explore Florida.
O’Dea commented, “I have always enjoyed sharing my experiences to help others grow. I hope that the experiences I can bring to the JROTC program here at LRHS will help empower others to strive for success in all they choose to do as well.”
