LRHS English teacher Susan O’Brien is happy to be back in the classroom.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Susan O’Brien is the new Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) general paper teacher at LRHS.

AICE English General Paper is an English class that counts towards Florida graduation requirements and gives students an opportunity to earn a college elective credit at no cost to families. The course is designed to give learners a variety of opportunities to read relevant texts across a variety of topics and subjects. Students learn to build and write arguments, support their claims with evidence, and read widely about contemporary issues.

O’Brien previously served as a dean at LRHS from 2017 to 2020 but left to pursue a different job in  the Manatee County School system.

O’Brien stated, “I am an older woman now and I am ready to do thing I love again. Teaching is my passion, not working in an office, so when I heard I could teach AICE here I was so excited to come back.”

Before her time as an LRHS dean O’Brien taught various English and literature-based subjects such as AP reading.

This year O’Brien teaches almost entirely 12th grade, but her interests lie beyond that.

O’Brien has twin sons in their thirties and loves her two dachshund puppies. She was born and raised in New York City, so she enjoys the sunny Florida weather as well as biking, golfing, and playing tennis.

“I am very glad to be back at LRHS. I love the staff, I love the kids, I love what we do here, and I think we do it the best,” said O’Brien.
