Emma Conerly – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS welcomed new teacher Alexander Gimmi for the 2020-2021 school year. He teaches Intensive reading, critical thinking, and world cultures and geography.

Gimmi moved to Florida from Columbus, Ohio six years ago. His wife is a teacher in Sarasota, and they are expecting a son in the fall.

Prior to his teaching job Gimmi worked for Anthem, a large health insurance company, for five years. After five years of working for Anthem, he decided he wanted a career where he could make a difference in people’s lives, something that he felt he could not do with his job at Anthem.

“I wanted to find a career where I could invest in students’ lives and make a difference. The Ranch had a great reputation for doing just that, so it was easy to make the decision to join the staff here,” said Gimmi.

Although his school year was different than he expected due to COVID-19, Gimmi enjoyed the challenge and ability to grow as a teacher. He has mostly taught online, but his on-campus classes are his favorite to teach.

“My favorite part of the job is interacting with the Mustangs. I especially like being able to share in their victories such as passing a test or scoring a touchdown,” said Gimmi.

Despite the challenges with Covid-19, Gimmi enjoyed his first year of teaching.

“I am looking forward to next year and hope that we are able to have a more normal year, putting COVID-19 and all of its challenges behind us,” he said.
