The LRHS Mustangs celebrate their regional win

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS girls track and field team won the 4A-2 Regional Championship on Saturday.

Mustangs placed in the pole vault, javelin, shot put, discus, 300 hurdles, 400-meter, 1600-meter, 3200-meter, 4×800 meter relay, and 4×400 meter relay.

Coach Kristin Wikstrom said, “This group is such a special, hard-working, and passionate group.”

The following Mustangs placed:

  • Riley Simmons (first Shot Put, first Discus)
  • Gianna Hagopian (seventh Javelin, seventh Discus)
  • Sofia Palonen (fifth Pole Vault)
  • Makena Murack (eighth 300H)
  • Maya Bridgeford (second 400m)
  • Gracie Marston (third 1600m, fourth 3200m, second 4x800m Relay)
  • Aurora Melzer (sixth 1600m, seventh 3200m)
  • Maeve Ingham (eighth 3200)
  • Ariana Majano (second 4×800 Relay, eighth 400m)
  • Sydney Granack (second 4×800 Relay)
  • Hailey Marston (second 4x800m Relay)

Senior Riley Simmons said, “I knew that if I stayed relaxed and did what I have done in training all week, that I was going to get the result I wanted. I did just that. Now it is time to get prepped this week and go after that gold medal at states in Jacksonville on Saturday!”

Several track and field Mustangs will head to the state championship on Saturday, May 8.
