Morgan McCabe – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Thursday night the LRHS varsity softball team defeated Newsome High School in the 7A District 12 Championship game.

Newsome was ranked first in the state while the Ranch was ranked second. This is the Ranch’s fifth straight district championship.

Mustang sophomore Olivia Laney pitched a complete game shutout allowing only six hits, no runs, with three strikeouts. This makes Laney 22-2 for this season.

Sophomore Amandee Lee hit one for two with two runs batted in with a pitch hit game winning RBIs. Junior Ella Coiner hit two for three and Junior Kelsey Vogel with a double.

The Mustangs are now 25-2 and Newsome is 24-1.

The Mustangs’ next game is the Regional Quarterfinal, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at home.
