(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – It’s a bittersweet week for the LRHS lacrosse players as their seasons end.
The boys varsity team fought hard on Thursday night at an away game against Pinellas Lakewood, coming back in the last couple of minutes to win 11-10.
The boys varsity team has a current record of 6-4.
The girls varsity team also took home a win earlier this week, beating Manatee 12-9, bringing their record to an even 6-6.
The girls junior varsity (JV) team played their last game of the season Friday, April 2, unfortunately losing 14-7.
This brings the junior varsity team’s final record 3-1.
The boys JV team also finished off their season last week, losing 13-5 against Riverview on Wednesday, March 31.
The boys junior varsity team’s final record is 1-3.
The girls varsity team will play their last game before districts on Friday, playing a home game against Sarasota at 5 p.m. for senior night.
Girls varsity coach Samantha Stoltz said, “Senior night is one of my favorite events of the year, it is important because we get to highlight the successes of these student-athletes and cheer them on as they get ready to enter the next chapter of their life.”
This year, both the girls and boys varsity teams will be going to district playoffs for the first time in LRHS history.
Senior Erika Lyvers said, “I have been on the team since day one and remember losing our first game 2-18, and to think that this year we are number three in the districts and going to the playoffs is the most amazing feeling ever.”
Both boys’ and girls’ varsity will both play in the district quarterfinals on Monday, April 12.
The girls team will be playing a home game against Bloomingdale at 5 p.m., followed by the boys team playing Sickles at 7 p.m.
