(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- KRHS senior Mustang Amy Jones has been selected as a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

Jones is very involved at the Ranch and participates in many extracurricular activities.

“In school I have taken and am currently taking many AP courses that I really enjoy. I feel as though they have furthered my education and helped me become a National Merit Scholarship finalist,” said Jones.

She has been part of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program since her freshman year, as well as participating in the orienteering team. This year Jones holds the title of Company Commander.

When applying for this scholarship, Jones was not sure what direction this would head in.

Jones said, “I have been aiming for this scholarship since I took the Pre-Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) my junior year because I knew this was a very important scholarship and that it would really help my educational career if I was able to qualify.”

Jones will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to pursue a major in mechanical engineering.

Jones stated, “If I were to earn this scholarship then it would ultimately provide money for Embry-Riddle, as well as connect back to the Bright Futures scholarship and give me almost a full ride for college.”
