Mackenzie Sisson– Mustangs Ahead
The Lakewood Loves Animals Club (LLA) is holding a t-shirt design competition open to all Mustangs.
Dedicated to assisting locals shelters and humane societies, the club has been looking to expand their network of communication overseas while engaging Mustangs in a fun and exciting opportunity to express their creativity.
LLA has decided to partner with the Golden Rescue dog rescue organization.
Golden Rescue is an organization dedicated to bringing in golden retrievers from China that would otherwise have been sold off to slaughterhouses and sold in dog meat markets. They can then be adopted in the United States.
LLA hopes the t-shirt competition raises over $1,000 to support their mission.

Math teacher and LLA adviser Catherine Franek stated, “These dogs are generally transported with broken limbs and kept in confined conditions without food or water. They are treated poorly and often killed and skinned alive. This treatment needs to end, and we are happy to be behind this cause and able to help in any way.”
Golden Rescue reached out to Franek and stated how much of their program relies on donations and adopters. Adoption prices cover about half the cost and the other half is supplemented through local fundraising and donations.
Mustangs interested in making a difference (all skill levels will be accepted and considered) are encouraged to enter the T-shirt program.
Any submissions will be accepted (digital artwork, sketches, etc.) and all submissions should be sent to SissonM@manateeschools.net by Friday, Jan. 29.
The winner will receive a message via their school email address and be asked to come and pick up their prize the following week in room 579.
