Reva Gandhi – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Braden River Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of teen volunteers from various Manatee County schools who provides input on ways the library can create enjoyable experiences for teenagers.
Students from all schools are encouraged to join, including LRHS Mustangs.
LRHS junior Aksharaa Praveenkumar has been a member of TAB for the last year.
Praveenkumar stated, “TAB is a place where there is no end to creativity. There are so many resources available, and we get to make the best use of it.”
Groups meet monthly to discuss library procedures as well as create creative displays for the library and teen center.
Due to COVID-19, TAB meetings are done via ZOOM.
Currently, TAB meetings are led by library employee Molly Saunders.
Saunders stated, “I think that TAB is an incredible group of teens, who really care about their community and each other.”
In the past, TAB members have volunteered at many programs, including the Braden River Library Fall Festival.
TAB is a good way to get community service hours. Members can attend monthly meetings or write book reviews for an hour of community service.
In addition to the monthly meetings, many TAB members also attend a monthly book club, Books and Beyond. Each month there is a different theme and members share their favorite books.
The theme this month is Manga, Comics, and Graphic Novels.
TAB often also has guest speakers, game nights, writing workshops, and more.
Saunders said, “TAB members help the library serve teens in the community more effectively, which is a benefit to everyone.”
