Orienteering team opens season with success

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Orienteering season has started back up with their first competition this past weekend.

Orienteering is a sport that requires participants to use a map and compass to run to a series of points shown on the map, choosing routes—both on and off trail—that will help find all the points and get back to the finish in the shortest amount of time.

It took place Florida at Whispering Pines State Park in Inverness.

There are three levels to compete in – novice, intermediate, and advanced.

The LRHS Advanced Team took first place overall , the novice team placed second, the intermediate team also took second place.

Individual Mustangs were successful at all levels.

In the female novice level Skye Stephens took first and Nicole Majewski took second. Andrew Legutko then took second place for the male novice level.

In the intermediate level for females, Oliva Sahr took third and for the males Ethan McDonald took second.

Lastly, at the advanced female level Samanta Rees took first and Elise West took second. Bailey Howell then took first place overall for the advanced male level.

The next event takes place this Saturday the 30 at Greenbrook Adventure park and they welcome anyone’s who interested to come and participate or cheer on the team.
