(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – With Mustang girls and boys lacrosse tryouts next week, new and returning players prepare for an intense season.

Boy’s lacrosse tryouts will be held from 3:30 – 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 at the practice fields behind the school (located next to the bus loop and agriculture barn).

Girl’s tryouts will also be held from 3 – 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 26 on the practice fields. Those attending should plan to arrive early and stretching will begin at 2:50 p.m.

Junior Campbell Laurvick has been getting ready to return for her third season.

Laurvick said, “I’ve been preparing for tryouts by going to the walls and back fields to work on shooting and other things such as conditioning and footwork.”

While some players work on their footwork, others stick to the stick.

Sophomore Landon Llamas is a returning player who fractured his foot a couple of weeks ago and has been keeping up with his stick skills to make up for his injury.

Llamas stated, “It happened at a really bad time, but I’m going to try to make the best of it and practice using my stick as much as possible until I get clearance to play.”

Players and coaches are excited to return after last year’s season came to a halting stop due to the pandemic.

Girls’ lacrosse coach and social studies teach Samantha Stoltz said, “My hope for the season is that we get out there and play some good lacrosse. We missed out on so much last season, so I am hopeful that we get back on track this year.”
