(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS girls basketball season is underway.
Thursday night the varsity team beat Palmetto 55-46 in a non-district overtime game.
Junior Kaylee Kehler described some of last night’s highlights and how they led to victory.
“Taylor Young, a senior, made a buzzer beater shot to win the game and made it, but the referee called no basket which sent us into overtime,” said Kehler. “The whole team shared the ball with everyone, which allowed for great transition and making many layups.”

COVID-19 has set this season apart from previous ones and has changed the team’s dynamic.
“COVID-19 has affected this season in so many ways. Before we enter the gym, everyone must have their temperature checked, hand sanitizer is required, and masks are mandatory when entering and leaving the gym,” said Kehler.
If any teams are quarantined or have been recently exposed the games are permanently cancelled. With the games not being able to be made up this could change state rankings and make it harder for them to get to districts.
