LRHS senior Ashlynn Voorhees is college bound in Acrobatics and Tumbling.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, LRHS senior Ashlynn Voorhees signed to Converse College on an academic and athletic scholarship.

Voorhees is 17 years old and an acrobatics and tumbling athlete.

“After my gymnastics career ended due to injuries, acrobatics and tumbling was a perfect replacement. Eventually Converse reached out to me and gave me the opportunity to go with scholarships,” said Voorhees.

The sport could be better described as a mix of cheerleading and gymnastics.

Acrobatics and tumbling is a new sport this year and is currently undergoing the process of becoming an NCAA sport.

Located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Converse opened in 1889.

The school has both successful academic and athletic programs, with many sports teams offering scholarships.

Voorhees signed her letter of intent on Friday, sealing her future for the next four years.
