(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Girl Up club will partake in a girl talk webinar on gender-based violence at 12:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23. to commemorate the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.”
The webinar is free for both members and non-members of all genders. It is part of a discussion Girl Up is having to encourage community action.
Girl up introduced the opportunity on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at their weekly Schoology conference.
During their conference they discussed how the recent pandemic amplified specific issues regarding the women population. This includes spikes in domestic violence cases, unemployment within women who hold minimum wage jobs, and women with higher health risks in the nursing industry.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world in many ways, but it’s easy to overlook the setback it has caused for gender equality.
With the virtual panel, Girl Up hopes to take a stand against gender-based violence through education.
“We are lucky to have so many dedicated youth representatives that continue to keep Girl Up members in touch with the timely topics arising in our community today,” said Girl Up co-president senior Emma Tulio.
The next meeting will be held at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Mustangs interested in becoming Girl Up members are welcomed to join the Schoology with the group code: GK96-WRGF-Q5GQS
