(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS’s Mustangs suffered a tough 51-14 loss against the Manatee Hurricanes on Friday.

The Hurricanes opened the game with a touchdown and then scored a kick return giving them a lead early on in the game.

The Mustangs touchdowns came off two passes, the first in the second quarter when senior quarterback Jimmy Kelly found junior receiver Jaleel Duncan wide open, who caught it for a 38-yard touchdown.

The second touchdown came when junior quarterback Cameron Madison hit junior Jalen Fredericks with a 41-yard score in the fourth quarter.

The Hurricanes early lead would help them secure a 38-7 lead by the half, scoring 13 to close the game out.

Coach Rashad West said, “it was a tough loss to a good Manatee team. I thought we played hard and competed at times, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.”

The loss for the Mustangs has knocked them out of the 2020 FHSAA Football State Championship tournament, ending their season with a 5-4 record.
