(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) seniors Elise West and Garrett Andrews have both won four-year ROTC Army  Scholarships.

Every year, the National ROTC Scholarship is awarded to young leaders on the path to serving as Officers in the Army.

The scholarship consists of either tuition or room and board, as well as additional allowances for books and other fees. The amount of money each recipient receives is based on the time remaining for them to complete their degree.

There are only 1000 four-year National Scholarships awarded annually.

Meanwhile, West has also received a prestigious recommendation from local Congressman Vern Buchanan to the US Military Academy at West Point.

West plans to attend a four-year university. Due to her scholarship, she will have little to no student debt as well as having a direct path to commissioning into the US Army.

“Personally, I see this scholarship as an opportunity to morph myself into a better leader and teammate,” she said.  “I hope to continue to build upon the lessons I learned in JROTC, and hope to enjoy new experiences and independence in my college career.”

Andrews also plans to attend a four-year college.

“This scholarship proves that hard work pays off, it shows that all of the sacrifices I have made were worth it,” he said.  “However, it took a lot of perseverance and diligence to get to where I am today.”
