(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs swimmers competed at the regional swim meet this past Saturday, Oct. 31.

Swimmer junior Frank Runge said, “I was very happy with my performance at regionals and cannot wait to go to states.”

The girls’ team placed 8th out of twelve teams, while the boys’ team placed 10th out of twenty-one teams.

Head coach Steve Lubrino said, “I thought regionals went really well, we had a handful of personal best times from our swimmers.”

Only two of the Mustangs will advance to the state meet, on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center.

Runge said, “I believe I am fully ready to compete at my best when the state meet arrives.”

Sophomores Runge and Dimiter Zafirov qualified for individual events in the state meet. Zafirov will compete in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, and Runge will be competing in the 500-yard freestyle.

With excitement Lubrino said, “I think we have a really good chance to have our two swimmers place in the top five at the state meet.”
