(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS swim team will be having its first virtual home swim meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m.

The meet will be held at the Lakewood Ranch YMCA and will be against both St. Stephen’s and Palmetto’s swim team.

The meets will be performed by having each swim team compete in their own practice pools, record the scores, and then combine all the scores for the events to create the final scores. This is to ensure social distancing and to keep the athletes as safe as possible.

This year, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) will not require swimmers to participate in a certain amount of meets in order to qualify for the district, regional, and state meets.

In past years, the FHSAA required a minimum of three swim meets in order to qualify for these higher-level competitions but changed the requirement due to COVID-19.

The rest of the season will consist of one more virtual swim meet, two traditional swim meets, and a series of championship meets.
