New LRHS teacher Kenneth Hanson brings government experience to the classroom.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- New LRHS government teacher Kenneth Hanson brings experience from the government to his Advance Placement (AP) government classes.

Hanson moved to Florida, from Illinois, earlier this year, upon accepting a job at the Ranch.

He said, “I have deep roots in Illinois as my generations of my family lived there, but I am excited to have a change in scenery and weather.”

Prior to his career in teaching, Hanson helped with the campaigns and elections for the Illinois Secretary of State. He also worked for Governor of Illinois, George Ryan.

Hanson taught for ten years before coming down to the Ranch to teach world history, AP U.S. Government, and AP U.S. Comparative Government. He taught both junior high and high school in the Chicago Heights School District.

Hanson enjoys teaching and interacting with his classes. He claims that COVID-19 has changed the way he works in the classroom and even how he teaches the material.

“I find it difficult to teach my hybrid kids as I only see them twice a week and don’t really get to connect with them. To compensate for that I have been trying to get to know them as much as possible on the days I see them,” Hanson stated.

Hanson has a master’s degree in history from the Northern Illinois University.
