Cameron Madison – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Monday, Aug. 14 the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) held a board meeting to vote on the future of all fall sports.
In a vote of 11-5, the FHSAA decided in favor of an on-schedule starting on Monday, Aug. 24.
This means that the LRHS football games will be happening this fall.
With the start of the season being delayed from the original start date, the schedule has since been modified.
Practices will start on Monday, Aug. 24 and the first game on Friday, Sept 17.
The football team was originally scheduled to kickoff at Crystal River and have their first game against IMG Academic Varsity but will now play North Port on the road to start the season.
Coming off a season that saw the Mustangs finishing at 6-3, expectations have greatly risen from past years.
Junior Receiver Jaleel Duncan said, “Our goal this year is to make the playoffs and beat Manatee High.”
To accomplish these goals Duncan added, “We’ll work hard, push ourselves, always have our brothers backs and play for each other.”
