(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- COVID-19 is affecting everything and everyone at LRHS, including the sports programs.

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has authorized fall sports to start on Monday, Aug. 24.

The LRHS cross-country team will be meeting at the YMCA, swimming at the YMCA, girl’s golf at Lakewood National, boy’s golf at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, and volleyball in the gym.

Manatee County has announced that all sports teams must follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines while practicing including social distancing and playing at a limited capacity.

The goal is to keep everyone’s exposure at a minimum while still allowing athletes to play their sport.

LRHS athletic director Kent Ringquist stated, “Each time an athlete uses any equipment during practice, it must be sanitized before someone else uses it.”

Despite the changes being made to sports in reaction to COVID-19, Ringquist is confident that athletes and faculty will work through it together.
