sports logo(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Due to COVID 19, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune is changing its annual Best of HT Preps Sports Awards Show from a physical event initially scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, to a broadcast show at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 18.

The show will honor several Mustangs, including boys soccer coach of the year Vito Bavaro and boys soccer player of the year finalist Jacob Jordan.

In response to COVID 19, The Herald-Tribune has stated that “We didn’t make this change lightly. To ensure the safety and health of our honorees and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt it was critical to provide an experience that eliminated those risks. In the new format, we will still be able to shine the spotlight on the incredible accomplishments of the student-athletes, coaches, and teams in our area so they can still receive the recognition they deserve.”

The broadcast will feature more than 20 professional athletes as hosts and award presenters and have an on-demand show to honor hundreds of local student-athletes for their hard work and dedication in their sport during the past school year.

This live event will also feature guest celebrities. The Herald-Tribune has stated that “The show will be hosted by television sports anchors Jesse Palmer and Sage Steele, and a full line-up of celebrity athletes will be presenting the awards, featuring: Venus Williams, Michael Phelps, and Misty May-Treanor.”

Numerous athletes from LRHS will be recognized at this event and have been award with honors such as First Team and Player of the Year Finalist. Some athletes have also received an honorable mention.
