(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This year, Champs’ Sports Foundation offered a $2,500 scholarship to one male and one female LRHS athlete whose lives were positively impacted by sports.

The winners of this year’s awards are Jaden Jones and Mckenzie Clark.

Each school submitted their top three male and female applications and their essays to Champs Sports.

The student athletes who participated must have met the following criteria –

  • Be a student athlete that embodied good sportsmanship and strong moral character.
  • Be passionate and committed to empowering the community in which he/she lives.
  • Be confident and enthusiastic about being a leader.
  • Display academic excellence.

Additionally, to qualify for the scholarship, students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, be involved with a high school sport or community sport, and plan on attending a college for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester.

This year’s winners expressed their gratitude for more than just the scholarship, but other opportunities and skills they have gained throughout their athletic experiences as well.

Jones stated, “My athletic career taught me the value of teamwork and to sacrifice for a common goal. I would encourage future students to stay involved because it helps make high school enjoyable.”

Both are planning to further their athletic careers after high school and continue to be a good representation of what the scholarship represents.

Clark said that she plans to attend Clemson University while pursing softball and Animal Sciences as her major. Her advice to other students would be to enjoy the experience while it lasts, because “the last game comes before you know it.”
