(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Two LRHS Mustangs were recognized by Thursday’s Golden Herald awards. The Golden Heralds are an annual celebration of local high school seniors’ service to the community.
Morgan Kirchman won the Vocational Golden Herald and Lily Potter won honorable mention in music.
The Golden Herald has been sponsored by Manatee Memorial Hospital for the past 20 years.
“We realized the program identifies high school seniors with strong characteristics of future leaders who showed their commitment to giving back to their school and community by volunteering,” according to the Golden Herald website.
Each Manatee County high school is invited to nominate candidates in each Golden Herald category. There are 16 categories, including such fields as art, athletics and music. Teachers are asked for recommendations and then a school committee, under the direction of the principal or designated representative, determines which two students in each category have their applications submitted to Manatee Memorial Hospital.
LRHS English teacher and Golden Herald coordinator Candice Delazzer said the Mustangs were well-represented this year.
“For all of you who wrote such wonderful recommendations for our winners and our other outstanding candidates, thank you so much for your help,” said Delazer.
The May 10 Bradenton Herald is scheduled to have a special section on the awards.
