Mackenzie Hopkins – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- This year the annual Technology Student Association (TSA) national conference has been canceled as a result of COVID-19. The national conference was scheduled to take place June 27 – July 1 in Nashville, Tenn.
Each year, members of LRHS TSA compete in various events at the annual state conference in Orlando to qualify for events at the national conference. This year LRHS TSA had multiple qualifying competitors who planned to attend this year’s national conference.
LRHS TSA president, senior Oliva Miller said, “Nothing is replacing the national conference this year, and we are all upset about it, especially the seniors. Now we are focusing on what we can do to improve the chapter for next year with the time we’ve been given.”
LRHS TSA member, sophomore Paige Willemsen shared, “This year has been a pretty interesting experience, from unexpected changes in leadership to the cancellation of the national conference, but still a great experience to work on events and compete at the district and state conferences. The national conference is a special experience and I’m disappointed that so many people won’t get the chance to compete this year.”
Due to the cancellation of the national conference and social distancing, LRHS TSA has chosen not to hold meetings through online conferencing. However, they will continue to update members and do end of year activities including officer elections and bylaw approval using Schoology.
“My TSA experience has been a great one, I’ve learned many new skills and developed abilities that will help me be successful in the future as an aspiring engineer. Like many other seniors of LRHS TSA, I’m going to miss the conferences most, especially now that the national conference has been canceled,” said Miller.
