(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Feb. 21 Mustangs for Kids (MFK) had their annual dance marathon fundraising event and raised $1,256.18 for Shriners Childrens Hospital in Tampa.
The dance marathon is the only fundraiser MFK will organize all year. The event was hosted in the school’s cafeteria which was decorated by MFK.
Club adviser and intensive reading teacher Terri McAllister said, “The success of the dance was incredible, we started out that morning with only $348 in the account and had a grand total of $1,256.18 by the end. This means that this one event brought in $908.18!”
MFK is an LRHS program associated with Bulls for Kids, an organization at the University of South Florida. Jessica Maresca, a Shriner’s Patient Ambassador who was treated and lived at Shriner’s Hospital for five or more years, also attended the dance.
Maresca was born with a condition called spina bifida and has been treated at Shriners her whole life.
“I’m so glad there are people in the world who want to raise money for such an amazing cause,” said Maresca.
“We raised a lot of money this year, but MFK will never be satisfied and is already coming up with a strong plan to raise even more money for Shriners next year and all the years after,” said McAllister.
