Lucas Scott – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The start of the new semester has brought many new Mustangs to the Ranch.
LRHS’s registration added new Mustangs to the total of nearly 2,500 students this semester. These students have recently switched to LRHS from a different high school or other educational situation.
Sophomore Carla Gutierrez-Sotelo moved from Manatee School for the Arts (MSA) this semester. Sotelo spent her freshman year at LRHS before switching and has reconnected with many old friends.
“I think I’m going to enjoy spending the rest of high school here, so far I’ve found that every teacher or student I talk to here is nice,” said Sotelo.
Not everything is easy for Sotelo though, who does have to catch up on some of the curriculum that MSA didn’t offer.
Sotelo said, “Chemistry will probably be the most difficult as my new chemistry class is a lot farther along than what was taught at my old school.”
Similarly, sophomore Jordan Birmingham is a new Mustang who came from Braden River High School (BRHS).
Birmingham said, “It is nice to reunite with many old friends from Haile Middle school. I prefer LRHS’s chorus to that of Braden River’s.”
Both Sotelo and Birmingham are enjoying the remainder of the school year at the Ranch, notably their electives.
“Orchestra is especially fun here at Lakewood Ranch,” said Sotelo.
Both also hope to continue meeting new and old friends with Birmingham
“I like going out of my way to meet new people and it seems that a lot of kids here do so similarly,” said Birmingham.
