(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Saturday, Feb. 15, the LRHS Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Orienteering team will compete in the Suncoast Orienteering race at T. Mabry Carlton Reserve in Venice, FL.

Orienteering is a cross country-type competition in which the runners use maps and compasses to find demarcated points in a specified area. This is the team’s third official race of the season.

The Orienteering team is divided into three teams: Novice (Yellow), Intermediate (Orange), and Advanced (Green).

Junior Rachel Gonzalez is the captain of the intermediate team.

“I’m looking forward to competing again since we’ve been off since last semester, and getting back into that routine,” said Gonzalez

Junior Elise West is a member of the Advanced team.

“I think I’m going to struggle with navigating the trails a bit because I got pretty lost last year,” said West.

The next orienteering meet will be on Saturday, Feb. 22 at North Port High School.
