Cameron Madison – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Robotics teams will compete this Saturday, Feb. 15 for the Florida State Championship. The championship will be played at RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
Students will be paired up, controlling robots in a 2v2 arena. This year’s objective is stacking and lifting cubes.
Nine students from two LRHS teams will be participating.
Team 6743a consists of –

- Sara Huszar
- Kyle McCann
- Kevin ter Hofstede Hernadez
Team 6743b consists of –
- Cooper Zion
- Joseph Robertson
- TJ Freeman
- Adrian Candocia (will take part in both teams)
These students have been working on their robots since September 2019. Hillock is the leader of both teams.
“Being in robotics club is a year-round commitment. We have been preparing for Saturday all year, our work from the whole year rests on this competition,” said Hillock.
The world championship is a prestigious event to say the least; ten teams will earn a spot from Saturday’s competition.
Hillock said, “The expectations are to win states this Saturday and qualify for the world championship.”
If they qualify, the Mustangs will compete against over 700 teams from 62 countries at the world championship. The event will take place over the summer in Louisville, Kentucky.
