(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity cheerleading team took on the National High School Cheerleading Competition (NHSCC) last weekend, Feb. 7-9.
The team had their best performance for the entire season, but unfortunately did not make it to semi-finals. They finished ranked 15th in the nation, the highest national ranking in LRHS history.
Varsity cheerleading coach Kiana Kowalewski said, “I believe that the team performed very well, but unfortunately we had one little mistake that set us back from semi-finals.”
LRHS junior and co-captain of the LRHS varsity cheerleading team Madison Kahler said, “I have no regrets from this past weekend. This was only our second year going to nationals, so being able to compete in the preliminary finals was an honor in itself.”
Captain of the LRHS varsity cheerleading team senior Briana Pierson said, “I think that being the highest nationally ranked team at our school is something that future cheerleaders will look up to when cheering in our program. It makes the team work so much harder by having this position.”
The NHSCC was the last competition of the 2019 – 2020 competitive cheerleading season.
Kowalewski said, “My favorite part of this year’s competition season was just watching the team improve and progress from start to finish.”
Kahler said, “From this season I am going to miss the amount of skill that we had on our team. This season the team was so talented, which made trying new skills super easy and fun.”
The 2019 – 2020 cheerleading season is not over yet, the team plans to cheer on the varsity basketball team to help them make it onto states.
