NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Feb. 8 at Manatee High School, the Mustangs Band and Color Guard members performed at Music Performance Assessment (MPA’s).

During this event, students could perform a solo or in an ensemble, which is made up with multiple performers.

Each student performing goes into the gym or a room with one judge and performs their piece. The judge will then score them using a rating scale of poor, fair, good, excellent and superior. In total, the Mustangs Band and Color Guard teams earned 68 superior medals and 20 excellent ratings.

Each competitor choreographs their own routine. They have been practicing these since December and were excited to showcase their hard work.

Senior color guard captain Shannon Ray said, “It was really cool to see how far our group piece had come from when we started until our performance, I am really proud of us.”

Color guard students that earned a superior rating are eligible for States on March 23 in Gainesville. Wind and percussion students who earned a superior on a grade 5, 6 or 7 pieces are eligible as well.
