(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS theatre department is currently performing the popular musical “Mamma Mia,” and opening weekend met with great success. The show features several songs by 1970s supergroup ABBA, performed and choreographed by the Mustang Players.

The play stars junior Jordan Cangro as Donna Sheridan and senior Gabby Macogay as Donna’s daughter, Sophie. Both have multiple solos in the show.

Senior Cayla Hill, who plays Ali, claimed over a month of rigorous preparation went into the production.

“We had rehearsals almost every day of the week spanning from the second of January until the show. Rehearsals averaged around six to eight hours,” she said.

The departments hard work paid off.

The performance was a high energy, refreshing rendition of a classic musical. The atmosphere of modern Greece was depicted realistically through props and costumes, and it was very clear that everyone on stage was having the time of their life.

Mustang performers did the classic ABBA songs justice, with lively choreography to accompany each piece.

“The turnout was fantastic. I have an incredible director and a phenomenal cast, and I wouldn’t trade the journey or the outcome for anything in my senior season,” said Hill.

All ticket sales go directly towards the LRHS theatre department and have assisted in acquiring props for a more immersive experience.

The department has three remaining shows, 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, and 2 p.m. as well as 7:30pm on Feb. 15.
