William Flood – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7 the final competition for LRHS StellarXplorers will start; it will be the last of three national competitions.
LRHS has competed in two of the three national competitions. Their scores from each of the three competitions will be average out and the best teams will move onto the next level of the competition. This will be calculated later this month after the third, and final, competition.
Each of these three competitions consist of a quiz and software portion using an orbital planning and simulation software created by A.G.I. and used by N.A.S.A, called S.T.K.
Junior David Dinh said, “I hope that our team will be able to do well in the upcoming competition as we’ve done okay in the past two competitions. “
Dinh continued, “However, there are also always curveballs inside of the competition which could throw a huge wrench in our plans. Despite this, I believe our team can do well, as we have overcome previous challenges before.”
Club members said they would have weekly talks regarding the different skills that are needed for the upcoming competition. This lets them come together and bounce ideas off each other to make sure that they knew what to practice next.
These meeting were also used to practice the STK software. Members created a study guide for each of the different quiz parts of each competition.
Junior Mathew Sidlo said, “I’m proud of our overall placements si nce we always nailed top 50% despite this being our first year.”
