free soccer picture.jpeg(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Tuesday night the LRHS boys’ varsity soccer team lost the district semi-final to Hillsborough Riverview High School.

The final was 2-1, and senior Giovanni Christiano for the Mustangs.

Even with this loss the Mustangs’ season may not be over, however.

Under Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regulations, playoff spots are awarded to non-district champions based on state MaxPreps ranking.  District champions automatically qualify for regionals, while the remaining four at-large regional bids will be determined by the rank.

LRHS head coach Vito Bavaro says that the Mustangs won’t know about state rankings until Feb. 9.

Before the ranking system, the district runner-up in team sports received an automatic regional bid.
