(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Buckle Up 4 BSwag and Bubba Association (BUBBA) is a non-profit organization that promotes seatbelt safety. It was created after two LRHS students, Brett Wagner and Josh Rogers, died in a car accident in 2011. Their parents believed this tragedy could have been prevented had they been wearing seatbelts.

BUBBA was founded by Wagner’s parents, Debbie and Fred, and Rogers’ parents, Gena and Jerome.

They decided to join LRHS’s Blood Drives to support a cause Wagner and Rogers used to take part in each year.

Through this partnership, BUBBA created the BUBBA Saves Lives Scholarship, which is granted to two LRHS seniors every year. BUBBA matches the donations made to the school by One Blood to award the two seniors.

BUBBA President Debbie Wagner said, “Remember their lives to save your own.”

The legacy is continued on BUBBA’s website, where people share their own experiences. For example, Crystal’s story explains how her father’s car flipped multiple times across five lanes of traffic, but wearing his seatbelt saved his life.

By sharing these stories, BUBBA is helping to spread awareness that even the simplest action can be the difference between life and death.
