(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- A group of LRHS seniors will be attending the prestigious 2020 Ringling Town Hall Lecture Series at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center Jan. 27 – Apr. 7. The seniors attending have been handpicked by their Advanced Placement (AP) Government and Economics teachers.

Different speakers that will be giving lectures include John Kelly, a former White House chief of staff, Rick Steves, travel guru, and Annie Leibovitz, a photojournalist.

“The lectures will help give the students experiences they wouldn’t normally have,” said LRHS social studies teacher Ben Hall. “It also helps students get scholarship money.”

These speakers come from all around the world in all different fields to help give students opportunities they would normally not get.

LRHS senior Maria Dienna spoke about the experience saying, “I’m looking forward to getting to sit in the lecture with Rick Steves. I heard about him based on his traveling books and I’m excited to hear what he has to say.”

Mustang senior Brendon Gadeken is excited to learn from Kelly’s lecture as he is going into the military.

“I’m looking forward to hearing his wisdom and since I’m going into the military there are a lot of valuable things, I can learn from him,” said Gadeken.

As well as having the chance to listen to the lectures of these prominent speakers from all over the world, students participating will also have the chance to win a scholarship based on an essay prompt revolving their given speaker.

“As well as a chance to win a scholarship, I’m looking forward to what the speakers have to say about the world and the impact it will have on my future,” said Dienna.
