NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Thursday Jan. 16 LRHS Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Rifle team competed in their third match of the season at Manatee High School. Both the A and B teams placed third overall.

Delta company platoon sergeant junior Bailey Howell  participated on the A team.

”My favorite thing about rifle is how calm you need to be when you’re shooting,” said Howell. “You can’t mess around. You need to stay in the zone to shoot well.”

Junior Tanner Pollock, a Delta company squad leader, is also on the A team.

“I’ve been shooting since I was little, the best thing about it is how calming it is,” said Pollock.

Freshman Cordelia Ramsden is on the B team.

“The worst thing, though, about Rifle is how stressful it can be,” commented Ramsden. “When you mess up a shot, it can be hard to relax to make the next shots count.”

The next rifle match is on Thursday Feb. 20 at Manatee High School.
