(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity cheerleading team is on their way to state competition this Friday, Jan. 31, along with the junior varsity (JV) team placing second in Manatee County.

On Saturday the LRHS varsity team competed at theFlorida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) cheerleading regionals at Plant City High School. They competed against seven other teams in their division and placed fifth.

Mustang co-captain junior Madison Kahler said, “I think the team did very well this past weekend and I am excited to see how we place at states.”

With states being this Friday, the team does not have a lot of time to adjust their routine.

Coach Kiana Kowalewski said, “With the two practices we have left until states, we are planning on fixing the little things that will make our score higher.”

The LRHS JV cheerleading team placed second this weekend in the county championships. This was their last competition of the season. Special needs teacher and coach Sherri Haber said, “Despite having to rework our routine due to injuries and illness, I feel that they did good.”

The Manatee County cheerleading competition was at the Manatee Fairgrounds.

Haber said, “the team did an awesome job this year and stayed at top two the entire season with the majority of the team having little to no experience in cheerleading.”
