Mustangs Ahead – Anna Stock
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – With this year’s LRHS track practice two weeks in, the distance team is already preparing for their first meet.
Thursday’s practice for the distance team will be a two-mile time trial to see the athletes’ progress. Practice will take place after school on the track.
“The idea behind a time trial is to establish a baseline for the season. It’s good for athletes to know their starting point in a low-pressure environment,” said Mustang track coach Kristin Wikstrom.
Wikstrom is using this time trial in order to set up a baseline for athletes to see where they are.
“We have so many driven athletes on our team, so it benefits them to see where they are in order to set goals for the season,” said Wikstrom.
Wikstrom believes that this time trial will benefit the distance team in their training.
“We are only in the first phase of training and are still establishing an aerobic base,” said Wikstrom. “This is a chance for me to assess how our training block is going and to see who is ready to start moving forward to the next phase “
