Marissa Briggs- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is facing district competition Jan. 25.
The competition will take place at Braden River Middle School. The competitors will present their Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events, and be judged for bronze, silver, or gold medals. Those who qualify will move on the state competition.
FCCLA member junior Peter Fisichella said, “I’m a little nervous for my first competition, but also excited. I feel my partner, Jordan Baker, and I are preparing very well for our event, and I’m excited to show the final product.”
At the beginning of the school year, FCCLA members had the opportunity to choose whether to compete and to choose from over 30 categories. They are encouraged to choose a category that directly relates to them, one that would possibly be a career path of interest in their futures.
The STAR events are designed to give competitors an insight into what that field would entail.
The FCCLA state competition takes place in March. After the district competition, competitors have until then to look at the judge’s feedback and make the necessary adjustments, in hopes of earning scores that will take them to nationals this summer.
